The same is true of finding Hacksilver out in the world: the more powerful you become, the more value you’ll get from rewards throughout the Nine Realms.
There are five main ways to earn Hacksilver in God of War: Ragnarok, and you’ll probably do several on instinct. Specific mechanics and actions can take your gains even higher, but you’ll have to work harder or take specific steps to achieve them.
For most of the game, your primary source of Hacksilver will be opening the chests scattered around the various worlds. Chests with the currency come in three varieties:
Small brown chests Medium red chests Golden Legendary chests.
The small version is the most plentiful but offers the least reward. Red chests are a little harder to get to but provide a modest amount of Hacksilver. Legendary chests come with a bounty of currency and powerful upgrades, equipment, and crafting materials but are rarer.
You’ll also find dozens and dozens of corpses littering the battlefields with glowing lights shining from their feet. These are little pouches of Hacksilver, which you can quickly pick up for a boost of money.
The Easiest Hacksilver Farm
Like the 2018 game, God of War: Ragnarok sees you spending a lot of time in two-person canoes. While exploring every river, lake, and sea in the realms, you’ll come across various broken barrels. Rowing the boat over these barrels awards a small amount of Hacksilver, and they respawn infinitely, so while this isn’t the most efficient farm, it is easy and consistent.
The same is true of destroying the various pots in the game’s dungeons. Not much Hacksilver, but there are literally thousands of tiny pots to break.
The Collector’s Favorite Way to Farm Hacksilver: Sell Artifacts
Collectibles make their triumphant return in God of War: Ragnarok, and among them are purple-rarity items you can take to a shop and sell for a tidy sum. You’ll know you’ve got something good when your NPC companions mention a short piece of lore about the trinket you find, and thankfully, selling these items doesn’t get in the way of your completion percentage.
Most Rewarding Way to Farm: Completing Sidequests
Called Favors in God of War: Ragnarok, side content might take a little extra time to complete, but the amount of Hacksilver, crafting materials, high-quality gear, and good storytelling you get out of them is second to none. Even the early sidequests are incredibly rewarding, giving you upwards of 1,500 Hacksilver for about 10 minutes’ worth of work.
What’s Luck Got to Do With It?
The Luck stat in God of War: Ragnarok doesn’t just govern how often specific abilities activate: it also determines how rewarding your looting is. Higher Luck means relatively more Hacksilver whenever you pick some up. Early in a playthrough, you’re not going to have much access to Luck-boosting gear, but come late-game, when the gear farming starts, that all changes.
Those are the best ways to farm Hacksilver in God of War: Ragnarok. If you don’t want to waste materials on upgrading, you can save currency by only purchasing better gear rather than improving it, and you’ll usually do fine.
