According to the WWE 2K website, pre-ordering the game will grant gamers two playable editions of the Superstar. These include a WWE edition of Goldberg with black and white shorts and a WCW edition with black tights. Additionally, gamers who pre-order will receive access to two WCW arenas: WCW Monday Nitro and Halloween Havoc.
The announcement came in the form of a trailer that served as a conclusion to the social media #Hatch campaign. After teases on WWE’s Twitter account that something big would be “unleashed” on May 30, the video announcement aired that night during WWE Monday Night Raw. True to form, it features the hatch exploding to reveal Goldberg himself, who then leaves the scene with a team of park rangers.
Notably, a reflection of Brock Lesnar’s Suplex City logo appears in the window of a police vehicle at the end of the trailer. This has led to speculation regarding what the former WWE World Heavyweight and UFC Heavyweight Champion’s role is in the announcement.
Goldberg’s last WWE 2K appearance came in WWE 2K14, and coincidentally enough, Lesnar was involved. The WrestleMania XX match between the two was part of the game’s 30 Years of WrestleMania mode.
Goldberg joins a prestigious list of pre-order stars in the WWE 2K series, one that has included Sting, Ultimate Warrior and The Rock in prior years.
WWE 2K17 is scheduled for release in October for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
