WB said: “Gotham Knights will now launch worldwide in 2022. We are giving the game more time to deliver the best possible experience for players. Thank you to our amazing fans for your tremendous support of Gotham Knights. We look forward to showcasing more of the game in the coming months.”

According to a report from GamesRadar+ published in November, which we reported on, Gotham Knights has already undergone some changes since being unveiled in August 2020. The game’s Creative Director, Patrick Redding, said that WB “redesigned Gotham Knights’ combat system for co-op play, so it offers more challenge and variety than the usual brawler.”

Before the most recent delay announcement, Gotham Knights originally had a 2021 release window, though no firm date. It joins a long list of games delayed over the past few months, including Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and Gran Turismo 7. Those are all now 2022 releases and don’t consider other games delayed from 2020 to this year.

In Gotham Knights, Batman’s titular haunt is overrun with corruption and violence in the absence of the caped crusader. Up to two players take the role of one in-game character each, choosing from Batgirl, Red Hood, Robin, and Nightwing.

It’s pure speculation, but perhaps four-player co op will be added ahead of release next year. Arkham-style combat with three other crimefighters? Yes please. Stay tuned for more on Gotham Knights in the coming months.
